How To Make A Terrarium Table

Terrariums are small ecosystems that can add a touch of nature to any room. A terrarium table is a great way to create a unique and functional piece of furniture while also having a living display. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to make your own terrarium table.

Materials

Before we get started, you will need to gather the following materials:

  • Glass container - choose a container that fits the size and shape of your table
  • Sand or gravel - for drainage
  • Potting soil or sand - for planting
  • Plants - choose plants that thrive in a humid environment
  • Moss - for decoration
  • Gloves - optional but recommended
  • Table base - you can use an existing table or make your own

Step 1: Prepare Your Container

The first step is to prepare your container. Start by cleaning it thoroughly with soap and water. Then, add a layer of sand or gravel to the bottom for drainage. This will help prevent water from pooling at the bottom and causing root rot. Add enough sand or gravel so that it covers the bottom of the container completely.

Step 2: Add Soil or Sand

Once you have added the drainage layer, it’s time to add soil or sand. Depending on the type of plants you are using, you may want to use potting soil or sand. If you are using succulents or cacti, for example, sand may be a better choice as it allows for better drainage.

Step 3: Plant Your Terrarium

Now it’s time to add your plants. Choose plants that thrive in a humid environment such as ferns, mosses, or tropical plants. Arrange them in the container, making sure to leave enough space for growth. Use your hands or a spoon to dig small holes in the soil/sand and carefully place each plant into its respective hole. Be gentle with the roots and make sure they are well covered with soil/sand.

Step 4: Add Moss

After planting, add some moss to the top of the soil/sand. Moss not only adds a decorative touch, but it also helps to retain moisture in the terrarium.

Step 5: Create Your Table Base

While your terrarium is growing, it’s time to create your table base. You can use an existing table or make your own. If you are making your own, start by choosing the type of wood you want to use. Cut the wood to the desired size and shape, and then sand it down until it’s smooth.

Step 6: Attach Your Container

Once your table base is ready, it’s time to attach your container. Place the container in the center of the table and use strong adhesive to secure it in place. Make sure the container is level before the adhesive dries.

Step 7: Enjoy Your Terrarium Table

Your terrarium table is now complete! Place it in a location where it gets plenty of natural light but is not in direct sunlight. Water your plants as needed and enjoy your living display!
